Harmful Algae of Europe
This collection originally started as a collection concentrating on HABs found around the long-term monitoring station (Helgoland Roads) at the Biological station Helgoland. However, it is now being extended to include harmful species from around Europe. The collection includes diatoms, dinoflagellates, raphidophytes and other organisms known to be toxic or to form dense blooms. Most of the organisms shown here are also found in the North Sea (unless stated otherwise) The images are derived from net and bottle samples and permanent slides. The images include light micrographs, SEM and TEM pictures The collection also includes some material from the Harmful algae project site which is no longer maintained.
