East Atlantic -Portugal- Dinoflagellate Cysts

Many dinoflagellates have in their life-cycles a benthic resting cyst. This collection is dedicated to dinoflagellate cysts collected from surface sediments along the coast of Portugal. The images have been obtained within several research programs aiming at providing comprehensive biogeographic information on extant dinoflagellate species and assessing the importance of cyst beds in bloom dynamics. When available both the theca-based (biological) and the paleontological species' names are indicated. Images have been assembled by researchers at Centro de Oceanografia, Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon.
