ALISU - Universidade de Lisboa Culture Collection
The ALISU collection regularly provides experimental organisms for research and didactic purposes within the University of Lisboa, and on demand to other national and international institutions. The cultures are non-axenic unialgal or clonal. We presently maintain strains from 30 species of marine phytoplankton with particular emphasis on harmful or potentially harmful species (Dinophyceae, Bacillariophyceae, Haptophyceae, Raphidophyceae). All strains have been isolated from Portuguese coastal waters by members of our research group. Some strains are still in the process of being described or studied. This collection is being developed within a national project (HABCOL- marine HAB culture COLlection- a critical tool for phytoplankton studies, ref. PDCT-MAR-60086-2004).
